The Speakeasy

The Speakeasy is housed in the ancient subterranean caverns that underpin the bustling streets of Edinburgh's Cowgate district, right in the heart of Scotland's capital city.  This unusual venue is a thriving, vaulted space that hosts some of the most exciting events in Edinburgh.

This is a newly developed and exclusive private venue which is both sumptuous and sassy: rich and modern. It is a chameleon of buildings and atmosphere - playing host to sedate dinners and raucous parties alike.  The ambience is relaxed yet classy and chic; an interesting contrast to the stunning backdrop of vaulted chambers and rugged stone. 

Up to 48 guests can enjoy a candlelit dinner, 80 a more informal dining experience and 120 reception style.  Along with the 5-star catering of Robin Bowie and 5-star hospitality packages of Mercat Tours, this is a unique and exclusive new venue for your event.

The Company

The co-owner of The Speakeasy and driving force behind the venue is Sarah David.  She has been involved in the events scene for many years and was previously the long serving manager and events administrator of the Liquid Room in Edinburgh.  Sarah’s partner, Tim Makin, helps her achieve the goals that she sets and enables the venue to move forward technically and has spearheaded the development of their new space, The Speakeasy.

Cabaret Voltaire has gone from strength to strength since it opened its doors at the beginning of 2005 and looks set to continue to mould, shape and support the new events in Edinburgh.
